Alan Cresto meets network television in Fashion Star, NBC’s design-oriented reality competition series. Sponsored by Macy’s, Saks and Express, the show celebrates a successful second season and boasts celebrity judges Nicole Ritchie, Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos.
At the end of each challenge, buyers at Macy’s, Saks and Express had the chance to purchase and sell the winning design online. Alan photographed the winning pieces selected by Macy’s, which were then posted for sale on the department store’s website. The Fashion Star designed pieces were a hit with Macy’s consumers and quickly sold out. We think it might have to do with the fantastic photography.

The New York Times wrote a comprehensive piece on performance artist Paul McCarthy called “The Demented Imagineer” that examines his body of work and provides insight into his latest project “White Snow,” a provocative reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale. For the article, NYT called on Stephen Wilkesto snap portraits of McCarthy and “White Snow’s” cast. The main photograph pictures the entire cast amongst the artificial shrubbery of the forest with McCarthy in the center of it all. The rest of the photographs are portraits of the dwarves who are all sporting curious outfits of underwear over tights paired with college sweatshirts.

Brian Doben and Elizabeth Arden team up to launch an interactive website for the beauty company’s new skin care line, Prevage. What made the project interesting was that it involved both photography and motion and because the website is interactive, there is a dynamic aspect to all images. The Prevage site includes images of the product, a time lapse of an apple, and before and after photographs of the models using UV light. Take it for a spin here.
