Erwin Olaf is the 2011 recipient of the Johannes Vermeer Award. The award is a state prize for the arts and was set up in 2008 by the Dutch government. It is awarded for outstanding artistic talent working in the Netherlands in disciplines that range from design to dance, fashion to music, and writing to painting. Boekmanstichting, an intersectional study for arts, culture, and policy, oversees judging and organization for the award and ceremony.

The LED billboard in Times Square promotes the financial institution’s latest offering, MONEY, a debit card/online banking account for teenagers. The billboard is part of a broad campaign that also includes a Facebook page, a series of online ads and kiosks in malls in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and Paramus, NJ. Gillian Laub photographs her favorite beach in Israel for a photo essay for TIME. “Tel Aviv Beach: One Photographer’s Enduring Oasis,” documents the eclectic mix of people who frequent the beach. They are old, young, skinny, maimed, Orthodox Jewish, American, Israeli, Russian and Ethiopian immigrants and Phillipino or Chinese foreign workers. In Laub’s decade of photographing Israel, the beach, called Tayelet in Hebrew, has become her favorite escape. And not just for her. Laub has come to see that the beach is an escape for the people of Israel as well, a temporary break from the country’s politics and turmoil. She says, “the beach, I’ve come to realize, is where the country comes to breath.”

Commissioned by Leo Burnett France and tasked with depicting the often humorous steps of the creative process that an ad takes en route to the esteemed advertising awards each year in Cannes. Spanning from ‘The Brief’ through numerous judgements and ‘Alea Jactae Est’ (the Die is Cast) and then finally to ‘The Elevation’ of winning a coveted Cannes Lion award, the idea behind the piece was to stress the importance of the Cannes Lions Festival to those in the advertising world. The Selby visits Heroes in Berlin for the latest edition of Edible Selby for T Magazine. The French-American themed café is located in the up and coming Neukölln district. It was founded by American Caroline Burnett and showcases both art and food. The café is located in the front, while art shows curated by Burnett are held monthly in the exhibition space in the back.
